Meet the Mill - Marton Mills
At Bucktrout we pride ourselves on sourcing the fabrics for our collections from some great British mills.
In this post we are highlighting the local Marton Mills just down the road from Bucktrout HQ in Poole in Wharfdale, Otley.
Marton Mills is a traditional family owned weaving mill in the heart of West Yorkshire.
Founded in 1931 on Marton Street in Skipton, the company was bought by the Watts family in 1981 and was moved to its current premises at Pool Mill in 1996.
Investment and commitment to the best machinery has enabled Marton Mills to expand into all areas of apparel and furnishing fabrics. They are the largest supplier of school wear and kilt fabrics in the UK, and have an in house design team who collaborate with customers like ourselves to create unique fabrics and designs.
Our favourite cloths are the Pure Wool designs found in the Nidderdale and Wharfdale collections. Marton Mills say of these collections:
"They embody the craftsmanship of our dedicated weavers and the innovative style of our in house design team. Influenced by our surrounding English countryside, the collections untie fresh contemporary design with authentic Yorkshire tweed."
The worsted wools in these collections are a constant source of inspiration for our new deigns and tailored styles. The 100% wool cloths give us a lighter weight option for our tailoring than our established Harris Tweed styles, which make them perfect for Autumn suiting and our Spring/Summer collections.
